God Is for Us, and God Is with Us!

The angel Gabriel had been dispatched by God to a small town southwest of the Sea of Galilee, called Nazareth. His mission was to inform a teenage girl that she would give birth to the Messiah.

When Gabriel arrived in Nazareth, he went straight to Mary’s home, and upon entering greeted her with these words, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women” (Luke 1: 28). Mary was troubled by the greeting, not knowing what to make of Gabriela’s statement that she was “highly favored” and that “the Lord was with her.” What did he mean by “highly favored one?”

It’s a good question. One that every Spirit-filled believer can take hold of and be empowered. There is no doubt as to the unique nature of God’s blessing upon Mary. However, the phrase “favored one” is translated – filled with grace. I believe that in the very moment an individual says yes to a relationship with Christ, and yields to His Sovereign Lordship, from the realms of the extraordinary into the life of the ordinary – the extraordinary presence of God’s Spirit takes up residency and the ordinary is no longer so ordinary. That individual becomes the enfleshment of God’s grace to the extent that he yields to the Spirit of God. This action on the part of God, speaks to the fact that God is for us, and He is with us.

When you and I say yes and yield our live to God, we become “highly favored and blessed of God.” Knowing that God is for us and with us is a powerful reality that transforms the ordinary into something – someone – quite extraordinary!

So, I ask, are you highly favored and blessed? You are if you have said yes and yielded your life to His Lordship.
